SALALM AWARDS: An Overview

These SALALM awards receive the annual financial support from our members as an expression of our commitment to the advancement of Latin American and Caribbean area studies and specifically of benefit to the specialists dedicated to service in research libraries and archives.

Dan C. Hazen SALALM Fellowship
The Hazen SALALM Fellowship contributes to the growth of the membership through the award of partial financial support for either scholarly research or professional development. It was established in 2015 to honor and reflect the spirit and vision that Dan brought to the profession during the four decades that he enriched, as well as enlivened, our discussions and proceedings.

ENLACE

Established in 1986, ENLACE has provided travel awards to over 85 librarians and other information professionals throughout Latin American and the Caribbean to attend SALALM’s annual meetings. Creating and supporting the expansion of professional networks contributes to a better understanding of the region, fosters professional development and improves services at our institutions.

José Toribio Medina Award

An award given in recognition of outstanding contributions by SALALM members to Latin American Studies. Format is not a criterion: books, scholarly journal articles, online databases and other electronically published works (for example, web pages, blogs), films, microforms, and other non-print materials are all eligible.

SALALM Award for Institutional Collaborative Initiatives

The Award recognizes outstanding collaborative or partnership initiatives for new or ongoing projects involving several (i.e., two or more) educational, research or other non-profit organizations with at least one being in Latin America, the Caribbean or Iberian Peninsula.

SALALM Travel Attendance Scholarship

Established to encourage professional and leadership development in Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies librarianship and archival work, the award of up to $1500 enables a master’s candidate in an ALA-accredited (or equivalent) library, information, or archival studies program to attend the next SALALM annual conference.
